A Quiet Day

16 Feb

I knew that yesterday was going to be a quiet day, just bumming around the house, but I decided to take pictures anyway.  It seems like I never grab my camera anymore. . . so here’s a chronicle of a really slow, lazy, sort of Saturday. . . which started, of course, with a trip to the library!

I decided that the weather was beautiful, and I was  ready for Spring!  So I opened the door.  That was maybe a little premature.IMGP0088

Huddled up in the extra room, writing a real letter.  Maybe today, I’ll write a novel. IMGP0092

Cupcakes!  Frosting is overrated, right?  IMGP0103

I finished the day watching the latest version of The Great Gatsby.  I had been curious. . . but so wary, and honestly still sort of burnt out on the novel.  I don’t know how many times I’ve read it or written about it or discussed it. . . but, afterwards, I felt compelled to haul out my thesis and reread it.  I don’t know how I managed to write over 40 pages on Fitzgerald, his novels, and his depiction of women without mentioning Zelda or her influence on those novels a single time, but I did.  Of course, including her would have lengthened that tome considerably, and it’s long enough as is!

More bedroom photos

16 Feb

After I posted these pictures, I realized that they weren’t as happy and bright as the room actually looks. That’s what I get for trying to take pictures in the evening, under fluorescent lighting. . . Here are some better shots in the room!  Including a fun shot of the zebra I made using this tutorial from Caroline Short of Sew Make Believe.

Finally baby pictures. . .

5 Feb

Okay, as is obvious, I haven’t had time really to edit any of the photos that I’m posting this morning. . . and I need to get ready to head into work. . . but these are my pictures from the weekend. Some of you may know. . . Adam’s temp dropped a bit, so he spent a few extra days in the hospital baking under a lamp and having tests run. Mom, dad and I watched Noah and Anthony. That was an adventure. And that’s why most of these photos are of the big boys!

Still not baby pictures . . .

5 Feb

I may or may not have mentioned it, but we’re hoping to become foster parents. So far, we’ve only been to an orientation, but I decided to start clearing up the craft room and getting it ready for a child of indeterminate age and gender. Getting a bedroom ready for a foster child is such a challenge that people don’t discuss often enough. I could have used some helpful blog posts, but there are so few out there, so I’m posting pictures of what I’ve done so far and what changes I end up making.

Things are always worse before they’re better, right??

IMGP0050

Things really are just starting to come together, and the furniture will probably be rearranged, but I started out by gathering toys from around the house and putting them all in one place.  The bookshelf also has a few of the picture books that I’ve collected.  I’m sure that before long, it will be full of books, and the toys and knick knacks will go somewhere else.

IMGP0052

Look!  I painted a cow picture!  Isn’t it fun??  And the picture frames were all painted a fun aqua color.  Geez, but I could stand to do some photo editing.  The main colors in the room are all going to be shades of green, yellow and aqua.  I’m waiting to buy sheets once we have a kiddo.  If they’re old enough, to have a favorite character or whatever, I’ll let them pick out their own sheets.

IMGP0053

And here’s a poor picture of a poster that I designed with the cow jumping over the moon.  Do you notice a theme?

IMGP0054

And here’s another random photo of the bookshelf.  Like I mentioned, I still have tons of projects, include upholstering the desk chair, but the room is so much cleaner and has plenty of space to play now.  I’m really wishing that I had arranged it like this years ago when it was my craft room.

Not baby pictures yet. . .

I know I promised family pictures, and I’ll get there, but in the meantime, here are December photos (all of those that AREN’T Christmas) all smushed into one post!

Adam’s baby quilt. . . I must not have taken photos of the other TWO that I made that weekend.  Yes, three baby quilts in one weekend. . .

Funny story – I walked outside and saw this, and thought it was a scorpion.  It took me a while to remember that in Louisiana, there’s a much better chance that I would find a crawfish outside my house!

And, finally, my new – old – coffee maker.  One can never have too many means of brewing up a pot of coffee!
